Alexander Publishing signs contract with Sweden’s eClassical.com to give students of Professional Orchestration 12-hours of digital rights management-free MP3s.
Alexander Publishing, the #1 publisher in the world for orchestration training, has signed a contract with Sweden’s eClassical.com, one of the top legal classical musical download sites in the world, to package digital rights management-free MP3s with each volume of the Professional Orchestration™ series and How Ravel Orchestrated: Mother Goose Suite. The result is what Alexander Publishing calls their Ultimate Learning Package which enables students to import MP3s into their sequencer and from there, create MIDI mock-ups which build the professional composing skills needed in today’s competitive music industry.
Alexander Publishing’s Professional Orchestration, which has been endorsed by winners of the Academy, Grammy and Emmy Awards, is the first orchestration book in the world to be packaged with 12 hours of digital rights management-free MP3s enabling the student to listen to examples anytime anywhere whether by iPod or cell phone. “After testing with our online Professional Orchestration™ class, we found that students wanted a portable MP3 audio solution and eClassical became the solution provider,“ said CEO Peter Alexander.
Once Professional Orchestration is ordered, the Alexander Publishing customer is then sent a unique login/password code giving access to the eClassical.com site through the Alexander Publishing web site. Once sent, the login/password is good for one week. The student then downloads all the musical examples in a zipped file format. Once unzipped, students can even burn a CD of the examples and listen on car stereos that read MP3s.
Beyond hearing a short example, as traditional with other orchestration books, the learner hears the excerpt within the context of the whole movement. This way, the student hears how the technique being studied fits into the whole music composition. Alexander explained that this is how the great composers learned. “The eClassical.com package enables the learner to replicate that learning style,” explained Alexander.
For faster referencing, a list of timings is being prepared so the student can call up the music, and zoom in just to hear the example as given in the book. “But even better is that the student can import the MP3 into their sequencer, locate the example, and with the Professional Orchestration book, do a MIDI mock-up from a full page/full score example,” Alexander said.
